Seamus Heaney

Seamus was born in 1939 near Ballaghy, where he grew up.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1995 for his lifelong contribution to literature.

1957 - Studied English Language and Literature at Queens University Belfast

1961 - Graduated with First Class Honours

1965 - Married Marie Devlin

1966 - Appointed lecturer in Modern English Literature at Queen's University Belfast

1972 - Moved to Dublin and taught at Carysfort College

1981 - Becomes visiting Professor at Harvard

1989 - Elected Professor of Poetry at the University of Oxford

1990 - Published the play "The Cure at Troy"

1995 - Wins Nobel Prize
