George was born in Dublin in 1856. His father was an unsuccessful grain merchant and his mother a professional singer. In 1876 he moved with his mother to England where he lived the rest of his life. (although his heart was very much in Ireland)
He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925 for his talents as a playwrite.

1895 - Helped found the London School of Economics and Political Science
1895 - Drama critic for Saturday Night Review
1897 - Wrote "The Devil's Disciple"
1898 - Married Charlotte Payne-Townshend
1898 - Wrote the play "Caesar and Cleopatra"
1900 - Published "Love Among the Artists"
1905 - Published "The Irrational Knot"
1905 - Wrote the play "Major Barbara"
1911 - Wrote the play "Pygmalion" - which was adapted into "My Fair Lady" which won him an Oscar
1919 - Wrote "Heart Break House"
1921 - Wrote the series of plays "Back to Methuselah"
1931 - Publihsed "Immaturity"
1934 - Published the collection of short stories "The Black Girl in Search of God and Some Lesser Tales"
1950 - Died, age 94
